Windows7 End of Life

Microsoft Windows 7 will reach “end of life” in January 2020

If you continue to use Windows7 after the January 2020, your computers will still work, but will become more vulnerable to security risks, viruses, scams and strict compliance laws.

General Info:

After 10 years, Microsoft has will stop supporting Windows7 with updates and security patches for free. Because the large majority of its customers have already migrated to Windows10, They have decided the cut-off date will be January 14, 2020. So as of January, 2020, every computer in your office currently running Windows7 must either be upgraded to Windows10, or must be replaced with a Windows10 PC. If the computers are more than one year old, HometechIT does NOT recommend upgrading to Windows10. Instead, we recommend replacing the PC with a new or refurbished model. Here are three reasons why:
1-You will spend more on labor to upgrade than replace.
2-There’s no warranty when you upgrade, and there’s no way to “go back” without doing double the work and double the cost.
3-The replacement computer will likely run faster than an upgraded computer.

Prices & Availability:

With regard to prices, this news means you should take action now or very soon. The computer industry knows about this. Its not a secret. So the longer you wait to replace your computers the higher the prices will be. After Summer, 2019 it is likely that computer sales prices will remain artificially higher due to demand. We are sure that over the holiday season 2019 it will be difficult to find reasonably priced computers and only more expensive models will be available. You want to be prepared so don’t wait. We have received great feedback from our customers using the most recent HP and Dell refurbished models we are using. They all come with Windows10 and have great specs and a full one year warranty just like a new PC would. The price is roughly two refurbished for the price of one new PC.

Industry Compliance:

Depending on your industry you may be required to follow specific regulations designed to keep customer or patient data safe. If you are in the Medical, Dental, Financial, or other regulated field, you should be concerned with HIPAA, PCI, SOX, GDPR and compliance with other regulations. Any OS that can not receive security updates will not be compliant for very long and therefore should not be installed on your network beyond January 2020 or it could cost you much more than just the cost of new computers.

What are my choices?

This page is purely informational for all visitors. However, if computers are essential in your business, it is not wise to wait; and if you wait too long there may be a delay in receiving your new computers or a delay in installing them. New computers are always best, but sometimes budgets or availability is an issue; so we keep some models in stock to fill this need for our customers. We created a price chart for three refurbished models that we commonly use in our clients’ offices and that we stock regularly. We want to make sure you get the computers you need. So if you are a HometechIT customer please click on the contact form below and let us know how many units you will need for your business.  No payment is required at this time. We will contact you to confirm your selections and for payment and installation arrangements.
